Last summer me and two friends went on a hiking trip in the Slovenian ‘Triglav National Park’. This was such a unique and wonderful experience. Waking up in the early morning surrounded by mountains and a beautiful sunrise is just something that you can only experience with something like a hiking trip.
We went on a hiking trip for four days. The first and last day were long and exhausting hikes. The second and third day were much shorter but more technical. Going into this trip, we didn’t know what we were going to experience, none of us had done something like this before. Of course, the most important thing to do beforehand is research into what equipment you need and how you further need to prepare yourself.
After an exhausting hike uphill through the forest, we were shocked by the view we got. Seeing that in person is just on another level than seeing a picture of it on your phone, it’s not possible to capture the beauty in a picture.
Then we arrived at our first mountain hut, this took some time getting used to. The atmosphere and state of affairs in such a mountain hut are unique, and we needed to adapt for a moment. But once you are adapted to the primitive lifestyle, it’s amazing, you feel disconnected from the world. In my experience this leads to peace of mind and relaxation.
Another thing I noticed was the kindness of the hut personal, but also the kindness of the other visitors of the hut. Because you’re living more primitive, you start to connect easier with people. I could feel the respect that everybody has for each other in every mountain hut I stayed in.
While some parts of the hikes we did were challenging, we managed to finish the hiking trip. That’s an accomplishment that feels really good, during those four days you connect with the people you’re doing this with. You drag each other trough different moments and you celebrate the accomplishments.
I think a hiking trip is something you need to experience, if you’re able to. The atmosphere, beautiful views and connection you gain with these trips are like nothing else.
